Parametric EQ charts for the Digitech RP10 guitar processor

The following settings make you sound exactly like Stevie, Eddie, and Metallica, and Satch, playing at line-levels in your apartment, into headphones... well, maybe I'll keep *those* settings secret. Anyway,...

You might find the following charts helpful. I mapped these out visually. The tiny 1-line display and tedious pushbuttons programming make it almost impossible to dial-in an eq tone intuitively. I use a good graphic eq, which I can punch in and out, to dial in a tone, then I write down where the knobs ended up at. I also used graph paper to divide the frequency spectrum.

Eq Shapes for 4-band Parametric Eq

Standard Eq (neutral starting point; flat) Freq     Q     Gain 80     1     0 315     1     0 1600     1     0 6300     1     0

Bass Cut, Tr Boost, Hi Treb Rolloff (for before saturation) Freq     Q     Gain 80     1     -12 315     1     0 1600     0.5     5 16k     2     -5

Bass Cut, Tr Boost (moderate sideways s-like curve) Freq     Q     Gain 80     1     -12 315     1     0 1600     1     5 6300     1     7

Charging Capacitor (for before saturation; min bass, normal mid and treb) Freq     Q     Gain 50     .5     -15 315     1     0 1600     1     0 6300     1     0

Down Ramp (max bass, min treble, with linear relationship) Freq     Q     Gain 80     1     10 315     1     3 1600     1     -3 6300     1     -10

Moderate V Freq     Q     Gain 25     .25     5 800     .25     -5 20k     .25     5 [6300     1     0]

Round Frown with hi-treble boost (hill, but with high treble) Freq     Q     Gain 50     1     -12 630     .75     0 4k     1.5     -5 20k     1     8

Split Brick (hyper-v; all bass bands max, all mid bands min, all treb bands max) Freq     Q     Gain 63     1     15 500     1     -15 4k     1.5     15 16k     1.5     15

Up Ramp (for before a saturation stage) Freq     Q     Gain 80     1     -10 315     1     -3 1600     1     3 6300     1     10

Bass Cut, Tr Boost, Hi Treb Sharp Boost (for before a saturation stage) Freq     Q     Gain 80     1     -12 315     1     0 1600     .5     5 20k     1     15

One weird approach is to tie a bunch of these parameters to the rocking pedal, for a strange wah-type controller.

I actually developed those settings to shape the eq *before* a distortion stage which I put *after* the entire RP10. My setup is from Planet X.

Other fx tricks (non-eq)

Try algorithm 22 -- Gated Reverb -- for backwards guitar. There are several modes; only one builds up properly for the backwards sound.

Also trying setting the chorus, flange, or phase very slow, with short delay, full depth, for a subtle warping tone. This can be done both before and after the fuzz stage, if you have the equipment.
